Zombie Nation

Prescription medication abuse has taken the United States from a hard working, self-sufficient, morally ethical and spiritual nation to a mind altered nation of zombies walking around paralyzed from the over endulgence of prescribed medicines. Oxycontin, an opiate, provided to patients as a pain reliever and is available only by prescription and used to treat moderate to severe pain.

Oxycontin is a time released medication and is usually prescribed to be taken every 12 hours because of this time release formula. Abusers of Oxycotin are able to remove the time relased coating in order to get a more rapid relase of the drug causing a rush of euphoria very similiar to the effect of heroin.

Short term effects of Oxycontin is respiratory depression which can lead to death when taken in large amounts. Common side effects are; nausea, vomiting, sweating, dry mouth, weakness and constipation. Oxycontin comes in 5 different dose amounts; 10,20,40,80 and 160 (which the manufacturer no longer distributes).

Long term effects of Oxycontin abuse can be extremely harmful due to the build up of the tolerance level in the body, meaning users must take higher doses in order to achieve the same initial effects. The long term use of Oxycontin leads to a physical dependence of the drug which will inevitably lead to addiction.
