What Is Addiction?

Addiction means that a person has no control over whether he or she uses a drug or drinks. When a person has become addicted to a drug, or any substance harmful to the body and mind, he/she is at a point where they are not using the drug, substance, or action to just get high instead, they have come to a dependence on their drug of choice in order to survive the day, hour, or minute. At this point a line has been crossed from abuse to addiction and addiction treatment is necessary in order to stop this vicious cycle. The most obvious sign of addiction is the need to use. There are many other signs to look for such as, change in mood, weight loss/gain and depression.

If you find that you are in need of addiction treatment, taking the first step in admitting that you have a problem is the single most important action you can take. Unfortunately, overcoming addiction is going to be hard.
