There are an estimated 200 million world-wide drug users with some 25-30 million addicts in the United States alone. These statistics, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration, shows why so many people are in need of drug rehab services. The problem of drug abuse is more prevalent in modern society than ever before. With easy access to prescription medication, the increase of methamphetamine manufacturing and use, along with alcohol and marijuana use, it is easy to see why our families and communities are quickly becoming a landfill of destruction and death.
The abuse of prescription medication is the fastest growing category of substance abuse in the United States with an estimated 6 million abusers. Accessibility is the number one reason for the rise in prescription medication abuse with the most abused being Oxycontin and Vicodin and the stimulant Ritalin.
STREET DRUGS
Street drugs are found in many different types and used in various ways. The most common street drugs are marijuana, crack/cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin; all of which are smoked. Crack/cocaine, meth, and heroin are also snorted and injected. The most popular “club drugs” are ecstasy and LSD.
ALCOHOL
With nearly 150 million users alcohol is the most commonly abused drug in the United States. Because of its legalization, alcohol is a wide open door to easy abuse and addiction.
