Spirituality and Recovery
Addicts who enter recovery are very fortunate in that they are allowed one of the most beautiful experiences: self discovery through spirituality. On the other hand, getting to that place of self-discovery can be difficult. When in the throws of active addiction, the addict may or may not know that he/she is killing the spirit light inside of them. But because the chains of addiction have held them captive for so long, the addict feels they are not worthy of uncovering their spirit or even want to allow themselves to discover what is truly inside of them. The addict has such a distorted view of themselves, due to the negative feelings and introversion that addiction causes, instead of embracing their spirit they do anything they can to avoid it. It is this neglect of the spirit that has the addict afraid of what they would discover if they were to stop and take a look at themselves. In fact, it is when the addict begins to embrace the spirit that true healing begins and the less power addiction has over you. When you go to drug treatment you will find that the motivating factor in recovery is the discovery of your spirit. Do not be afraid of what you will find out about yourself when you begin this journey of the spirit. Instead, embrace it and what you will discover is an awakening of beauty and life inside of you. When you enter addiction recovery you will be allowed to discover your spirit. I encourage you to take hold of this gift embrace the opportunity to begin the journey of self discovery. As difficult as it may be you will learn that you have value and that you are valued. If you or your loved one needs help, please call today and beginto discover your spirit through recovery.
